Debugging with the Low Pin Count USB Development Kit

The "Low Pin Count USB Development Kit User's Guide", available on the DM164127-2 product page, reads:

"In order to enable in-circuit debugging of PIC18F1XK50-based USB designs, a dedicated In-Circuit Debugging (ICD) board is provided in the Low Pin Count USB Development Kit, which contains special PIC18F14K50 silicon (with more pins than normal) that demultiplexes the USB D+/D- pins from the ICSP™ program/debug PGC/PGD pins."

To debug the code on the starter kit:

  • Remove the PIC8F14K50 device from the starter kit board.
  • Insert the ICD board that came with the Low Pin Count USB Development Kit.
  • Connect a Microchip programmer/debugger to the J1 connector on the ICD board.

Please note that debugging can be done only with MPLAB® X IDE and not with MPLAB X IPE.
