Server Application Setup

The MPLAB® Remote USB Communications Server application provides a simple server bridge that allows communications between the MPLAB X IDE running on one machine and Microchip USB-based development tools running on another machine.

Run the application and a dialog will appear (See figure):

  • Server IP Address: IP Address(es) assigned by the system. You cannot change the IP address(es). However, if you have multiple server connections, you can choose the one you want.
  • Select Port Number: Port number. You will need to enter this. (Avoid system ports like 80.)

The IP (Internet Protocol) address identifies the machine on which this bridge server is running. The IP address, combined with a Port number, provide the location of the socket through which remote communications will occur. The Port number is selectable; however, do not use system dedicated ports (such as 80 and so forth).

The IP address and port number specified in this server must be those entered by the user into the remote USB tool selection in the MPLAB X IDE.
