Can an RF transmission controller be placed between the four electrodes of an MGC3X30?

Yes, you can place the circuitry in the center of the sensor.

Make sure that the layout is as small as possible. There are two possibilities:

  1. Use a three-layer sensor (Rx-Tx-GND): Any circuitry in the GND layer is allowed, it is shielded by the Tx layer.
  2. Use a two-layer sensor (Rx-Tx): Circuitry can be placed in the middle, surrounded by Tx. The layout should be as small as possible and the circuitry should be a minimum of 3.5 mm away from Rx electrodes.

On either solution, we recommend the following guidelines:

  • Minimal routing in Tx layer
  • No routing in Rx layer
  • No vias through the Rx electrodes (besides feeding line connection)
